Using Essential Oils And Aromatherapy To Balance the Chakras – The Crown Chakra & Afterword (part 8)

Crown Chakra Spray InstaThe seventh chakra is known as the Crown Chakra (Sahasrara in Sanskrit) and is located near the crown of the head. The colors associated with the crown chakra are violet and white and the element is thought. The Crown Chakra is different than the lower chakras because our goal is to open this chakra instead of balance it. When our Crown Chakra is open to the ultimate Source we feel the Universal energy coursing throughout us. We may feel like we are in the flow and able to bend like a willow tree. The Crown Chakra is the entry point of the life force energy know as prana. This energy nourishes every aspect of our being. Here it serves us to meditate and InJoy living in the moment. When the Crown Chakra is fully opened we may find the unity we seek with the Divine Spirit.

The Crown Chakra is associated with the skin, skeletal structure, cerebral cortex, central nervous system, pituitary gland and the master gland. When our Crown Chakra is not open we may suffer from emotional issues such as depression, rigidity or lack of belief and courage. Negative emotions and thoughts may control our minds if our Crown Chakra is closed. We may develop nervous system disorders, bone problems and genetic disorders. Nervous tension can prevent us from living our dream and creating our own reality when the Crown Chakra is closed.

Typically we would choose essential oils that vibrate at a high frequency to open our Crown Chakra such as Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatum), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), Galbanum (Ferula galbaniflua), Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides), Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata var. genuina), Neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara), Rose (Rose damascena) and Elemi (Canarium luzonicum). These too are meditative oils which may assist us to quiet our mind and release negative thought patterns. Cleansing oils that purify and raise our spirits are helpful such as Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis) , Petitgrain (Citrus aurantium var. amara), Bergamot (Citrus bergamia), Clary Sage (Salvia sclerea), Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia), Pine (Pinus ponderosa), Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana), Lemon (Citrus limon) and Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifoia). To assist our Pineal gland we may choose Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) or Sage (Salvia sclerea). Other oils that resonate with the ancient wisdom of our Crown Chakra are Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia), Jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum), German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), and Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum). Linking the Root chakra and the Crown Chakra are the essential oils of Rose (Rose damascena), Melissa (Melissa officinalis) , Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia), Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides) and Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatum). These linking oils are lovely to use to bring our chakras into harmony.

So what actually happens when all of our chakras are balanced, open and flowing freely? Have you ever felt like it was all going your way? Like you were in the flow of the currents, gently floating you to where you needed to be? Have you stepped out of bed with a giant smile, ready to greet the day? Have you felt the sun on your cheek and simply acknowledged how blessed you are to be alive? These are all signs that your chakras are balanced and open! These are wonderful signs that you are doing everything you possibly can to live a lovely, blissful life in absolute gratitude. This is definitely what I wish for myself and all beings in the world, but just in case you need a little guidance on essential oil use…

There are a variety of ways to apply Essential Oils and Aromatherapy in our every day lives. I personally use essential oils via inhalation (diffusers, inhalers, steam showers and misters) and topically (diluted in a carrier oil, cream or lotion at a 1-3% ratio). I also love soaking in essential oil salt baths (don’t use more than 6 drops of oil per bath and carefully mix it with a teaspoon of carrier oil before adding it to your salt). These are all great ways to practically use these therapeutic oils on a regular basis. If you search within you may find that you are drawn to specific oils. You may know already what aromas you truly enjoy. Combining your intuition with your preference you will likely be guided to a wonderful blend to assist you in mind, body and spirit.

Third Eye Chakra Spray InstaThe sixth chakra is known as the Third Eye Chakra (Ajna in Sanskrit) and is located on the forehead just above and between the eyes. The color associated with the Third Eye Chakra is indigo blue and the element is light. This is our connection to our Divine Self, to our true nature in Spirit. We delve into deeper levels of understanding through our Third Eye chakra via philosophy, religion and spirituality in all forms. We may connect with our most enlightened wisdom passed down from generations here. The Third Eye Chakra guides us even deeper into the knowledge that we create our own reality, especially when it is balanced properly. We strive for conscious choices here and awareness of our identity and intention on this planet. The Third Eye Chakra encourages us to plant seeds of our truth in our mental gardens and make a conscious choice to uproot the beliefs that no longer serve us. We must tend to this garden on a regular basis, “weeding” out what may not be our truth.

Throat Chakra SprayThe fifth chakra is known as the Throat Chakra (Visuddha in Sanskrit) and is located in the throat region. It is associated with the color blue and the element of Ether. Here we strive to listen to our inner voice which connects us to the divine and to comfortably speak our truth. We learn that we create our own reality via our thoughts, words and actions. A well known adage that applies to the Throat Chakra is “think before you speak”. Our words have so much power and sometimes we need reminded such.

Physically the Throat Chakra correlates to the mouth, teeth, jaw, neck, throat, esophagus, bronchial tubes, upper lungs, thyroid gland and the hypothalamus. When our Throat Chakra is not aligned we may lose our voice figuratively and literally. Without the ability of self expression we may shut down inside and lack self confidence and self love. The Heart chakra tunes in to the element air and the color green. This is our connection to love and emotions revolving around love. Here we aspire to love unconditionally and search for the balance of giving and receiving. When balanced we feel self love and love with an open heart. The Heart chakra truly lies in the “heart” of it all and is the bridge between our physical and metaphysical realms.

It is extremely important to seek balance here in our Heart Chakra which also connects to our lungs, upper chest and back, shoulders, arms, hands, skin, immune system, thymus gland, and pulmonary and circulatory systems. This chakra is associated to the element of fire and the color yellow. Here we seek to connect with all of the ancient knowledge found within. Our source of intuition rises from our Solar Plexus region as well as our will power, self esteem and ambition. This is where the term follow your gut” is derived. Using Essential Oils And Aromatherapy To Balance the Chakras – The Sacral Chakra (part 3)

Sacral Chakra Spray InstaOur second chakra is known as our Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana in Sanskrit) and is located in the pelvic region. This chakra is associated with the color orange and the element of water. Just as the moon pulls on our oceans it too influences this chakra. Here is where we experience emotions and sexuality. This is the center of creation and the throne of Goddess energy. The Sacral chakra governs life itself, relationships and creativity. This is where we may become inspired to create music, poetry and all art forms.

The obvious body correlations to the Sacral Chakra are to the pelvis, hips, reproductive organs as well as the bladder, kidneys, colon, sacrum and all fluids of the body. When our Sacral Chakra is not aligned we wemoonifest (manifest) control issues, become fearful and disempowered. We may emit emotions such as jealousy, blame, guilt and resentment when our Sacral Chakra is not aligned. Physical indications of imbalance are lack of energy, circulatory problems, menstrual issues, prostate problems, sexual disfunction, sciatica and other lower back issues. Issues with our kidneys and urinary system may arise as well.

Since we experience a myriad of physical and emotional issues when the Sacral Chakra is imbalanced, there are a multitude of Essential oils to assist us. Lets begin with the emotional aspect of imbalance. We may find that oils from plants such as Jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum), Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia), Neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara), Rose (Rose damascena), Melissa (Melissa officinalis), Geranium (Pelargonium x asperum) and Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora) will assist us in balancing our emotions. You may notice that many of these oils come from flowers and encourage our creativity while offering us emotional support. For supporting our reproductive system we can turn to oils such as Clary sage (Salvia sclerea), Elemi (Canarium luzonicum), Jasmine (Jasminum grandiflorum), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Geranium (Pelargonium x asperum), Neroli (Citrus aurantium var. amara), Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata var. genuina) and Rose (Rose damascena). We may want to choose an anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic oil for back pain such as Basil (Ocimum basilicum ct. linalool), Bergamot (Citrus bergamia), Clary Sage (Salvia sclerea), Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), Juniper (Juniperus communis), Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia), German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct. 1,8 cineole), Orange (Citrus sinensis) or Peppermint (Mentha x piperita).

Using Essential Oils And Aromatherapy To Balance the Chakras – The Root Chakra (part 2)

Root Chakra Spray InstaSince our energy originates from the Earth and works its way up in our bodies we begin at the Root Chakra (Muladhara in native Sanskrit). Located at the base of the spine just beyond the tip of the coccyx, the Root Chakra correlates to the element Earth and the color red. This chakra centers upon our core needs for survival. This is where we feel physical pain and pleasure and where we connect to the Earth which sustains us. Here we deal with the elimination of physical and emotional waste, aspiring to let go of that which no longer serves us or the greater good.

The organs and body parts correlating to the Root Chakra are the spine, legs, feet, large intestine, elimination system, the sciatic nerve and the lower genitalia. Knowing the organ and body part correlations to chakras can help guide us in choosing a proper essential oil to promote balance for its particular ailment. When the Root Chakra is out of balance we may experience feeling ungrounded, confused, insecure, selfish and greedy. We may exhibit signs of depression and lethargy or have low back pain and spinal issues, general illness and dis-ease. Eating disorders may arise if our Root Chakra is imbalanced, perhaps obesity or on the flip side anorexia and bulimia.

To assist the Root Chakra in balancing and proper function we can turn to using essential oils from plants which are rooted deep in the Earths soil. These oils are pulsing with the Earths vital energy. Because they tend to have deep roots, they are grounding and strengthening such as Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatum), Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), Elemi (Canarium luzonicum), Patchouli (Pogostemom cablin), Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanoides), Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), and Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora). You may notice that most of these oils have base notes which appropriately align our “base” or Root Chakra with the Earth. They also help this chakra spin correctly thus creating the proper energetic foundation for the rest of our chakras. Uplifting oils which may help us in moments of depression or isolation would be Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata var. genuina), Rose (Rose damascena), Geranium (Pelargonium x asperum), Melissa (Melissa officinalis) or Clary Sage (Salvia sclerea). For low back pain we can look to anti-inflammatory oils such as Spike Lavender (Lavandula latifolia), Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) and Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) and Laurel Leaf (Laurus nobilis).
