Using Essential Oils And Aromatherapy To Balance the Chakras – The Throat Chakra (part 6)

Throat Chakra SprayThe fifth chakra is known as the Throat Chakra (Visuddha in Sanskrit) and is located in the throat region. It is associated with the color blue and the element of Ether. Here we strive to listen to our inner voice which connects us to the divine and to comfortably speak our truth. We learn that we create our own reality via our thoughts, words and actions. A well known adage that applies to the Throat Chakra is “think before you speak”. Our words have so much power and sometimes we need reminded such.

Physically the Throat Chakra correlates to the mouth, teeth, jaw, neck, throat, esophagus, bronchial tubes, upper lungs, thyroid gland and the hypothalamus. When our Throat Chakra is not aligned we may lose our voice figuratively and literally. Without the ability of self expression we may shut down inside and lack self confidence and self love. Perhaps we have poor listening skills or difficulty hearing or talking. We may suffer from throat or mouth issues, vocal problems, TMJ, speech impediments or teeth problems. We may also develop tension headaches or thyroid conditions when our Throat Chakra is blocked.

To support a healthy thyroid function we may choose essential oils such as Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) and Clary Sage (Salvia sclerea). To support clear communication and self expression may may look for essential oils that offer us inner strength such as Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Rosewood (Citrus bergamia), Elemi (Canarium luzonicum) and Sandalwood. Essential oils that lift the spirit emotionally may assist our Throat chakra such as German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Geranium (Pelargonium x asperum), Lemon (Citrus limon), Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana), Sage (Salvia sclerea), Bergamot (Citrus bergamia), Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) and Spearmint (Mentha icata). We may need oils to assist our throat on a physical level like Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifoia), Sandalwood (Santalum paniculatum) , Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora), Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia) and Clary Sage (Salvia sclerea). We may choose Clove Bud (Eugenia caryophyllata), Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifoia), Lemon (Citrus limon), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) and Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) for assistance in healthy teeth and gums.
